The European Landscape Convention of the Council of Europe promotes the protection, management and planning of European landscapes and organises European co-operation on landscape issues.

About the Project

In 2011. Republic of Serbia ratifed the European Landscape Convention and pledged to recognize landscapes in law and thus joined the group of 38 countries that have implemented this Convention. The main objective of the European Landscape Convention is the protection, attention (maintenance) and planning of landscape, so as organization of European cooperation on issues of landscapes, and the legal and strategic frameworks related to this topic can be identifed in the following documents: Law on spatial planning of Republic of Serbia 2011–2010 (Oficial Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, no. 88/10); The Law on nature protection (O_cial Gazette of RS, no. 36 /2009, 88/2010 and 91/2010); The Law on environmental protection (Oficial Gazette of RS, no. 135/2004, 36/2009, 36/2009 - other Law and 72/2009 -other Law), in Article 34; Draft Law on Spatial Planning and Construction, in Article 2.

Regional economic development agency for Sumadija and Pomoravlje in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental of the Republic of Serbia on 01.03.2015. started realization of the project entitled „Improvement of the capacities of Sumadija and Pomoravlje region for the implementation of the European Landscape Convention“ after the Rulebook on the criteria for landscape identi_cation of the Republic of Serbia was drafted and adopted in 2014, and the method of evaluation of their signifcant and characteristic features.
